What is a nitrogen generator and how does it work?

The air we breathe is approximately 78% nitrogen and 21% oxygen, with small amounts of other gases such as neon and hydrogen making up the remaining 1%. A nitrogen generator can produce a continuous uninterrupted flow of nitrogen gas from clean, dry compressed air. It uses a carbon molecular sieve (CMS) where oxygen and other trace gases are preferentially adsorbed, and nitrogen is allowed to pass through.
