What is a nitrogen generator and how does it work?
The air we breathe is approximately 78% nitrogen and 21% oxygen, with small amounts of other gases such as neon and hydrogen making up the remaining 1%. A nitrogen generator is able to produce a continuous uninterrupted flow of nitrogen gas from clean, dry compressed air. It uses a carbon molecular sieve (CMS) where oxygen and other trace gases are preferentially adsorbed and nitrogen is allowed to pass through.
Dual Chamber System
Extruded aluminum columns are filled with carbon molecular sieve (CMS). Connected via an upper and lower header, the high-density filled columns create a dual system. After a preset time, the control system automatically switches columns. One column is always in operation and generates nitrogen while the other is being regenerated. During regeneration, the oxygen collected in the CMS stage and the moisture collected in an optional integrated dryer stage are exhausted to the atmosphere. A small portion of the nitrogen outlet gas is expanded into the trough to accelerate the regeneration process.
